I wanted to make this infographic simple and cohesive, and have the focal point be the title and first image with a descending image size going down. I thought this was a nice way to welcome in the spring season while practicing elements of design.
The female magazine spread was a really engaging process from start to finish. I included a gallery to document the process of creating the spread because I truly believe the steps to the final product are important to consider. This was my first time working with InDesign, and I think it was a nice way to test the waters for next year when things pick up speed. I could not have gotten to the refined final product without the help of my peers, and I am so grateful for their criticisms as it helped me grow as a designer.
I was lucky enough to make this spread in my intro to Publications class and have it in the yearbook. I was excited to even make a spread for an assignment as I really enjoy design. I know that I will need these skills in the future, so I put a lot of work into making this spread the best it could be.
First Trimester 2021
Aghhh!! Just inserting these spreads under the one above this makes me so proud of myself! Even though the girls lacrosse spread was my first real full assignment of the year and was bound to be one of my worse spreads, I still think I've grown a lot. Just taking suggestions as they come and getting everything like cropping and spacing down to a science is really the trick to making a good spread, and I can see myself starting to catch on to that here.
I had so much trouble getting captions and quotes for this spread but I really love how the mods turned out. The picture of the two boys on the right of the left spread was a staged photoshoot because we needed some more pictures for the spread, and I am proud of myself for organizing and following through with that efficiently.
This is my most recent spread for this trimester, and personally I think it is my best along with swimming. I really got this done pretty quickly and I definitely think that is due in part to me using a template, but when it came down to the wire I could make small changes to this really quickly and work with it well. Aside from hard to reach tennis players, this spread went pretty smoothly and is a great example of my growth as a designer.
Working with the swim team to photograph them, write about them, and design their spread was 100% my favorite part of pubs this trimester. They were not the most communicative or efficient in getting back to me, but the pictures I took for this were some of the best I have ever taken, and that made the designing part easy. I am just really proud of this one.
Similar to how I feel about the accompanying story, I found making this spread pretty enjoyable. With Misha's great photo and a chilled color scheme, this spread welcomes the fall season but gives a slight nod to the summer with the water fight in the stands during a game.
2nd Trimester 2022
From the very beginning, I wanted to do a combo, and this was such a fun one! I took most of the pictures which I find more fulfilling when I do a spread as I like to see it through from beginning to end. It was hard to connect each topic and make a unique design in the process, but in the end this was a nice way to start off the trimester!
Out of all the design things and photography things I did this trimester I think this was my strongest. This compared to what I thought was my best work last trimester is such a huge improvement and I'm pretty proud of that. I mean, look at that tight pica spacing!!!
Other Work
I worked on team pictures and am currently working on club spreads, which is a different type of design that I'm pretty inexperienced with. I really like it so far as I find it relaxing, However you have to be really patient while you wait for quotes and wait for sports seasons to end. Of course it's all really satisfying to see everything fit like a jigsaw together, and I love that!
Third Trimester 2022
With the yearbook finally wrapped up, I was able to design for the senior magazine in a way I was previously unfamiliar with. I used the iPad and got to hand draw/ write some designs which was amazing. Seeing them on the page after making them on Procreate just weeks ago was truly eye opening to the fact that I can learn a lot under pressure and even though I may not be confident, going for it is important!
